1999 marks the 91st anniversary of Royal Ambassadors, and Nov. 7-13 is RA week at Southside. Founded in 1908, the Royal Ambassador program is celebrating 91 years of teaching boys the importance of missions.
At Southside, RA’s are taught to have a Christlike concern for all people, they learn how the message of Christ is carried around the world, and they learn to work with others in sharing the message of Christ. This is done through weekly chapter meetings where boys in grades 1-5 learn about local missions, home missions, and foreign missions. Each year through various mission-oriented projects, our young men are learning the "how" and the "why" of sharing Christ with others, and are raising money for foreign and home missions.
In addition to our missions studies and activities, RA’s learn teamwork, good sportsmanship, diligence, practical skills and appreciation for God’s creation through activities such as hiking, camping & campcraft, RA racers (pine car derby), birdhouse building, toolcraft, and indoor and outdoor games. Be sure to visit our bulletin board in the grand lobby during RA week for information and pictures of these activities.
We meet every Wednesday night from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the annexes behind the church. Trips and activities are scheduled throughout the year. If you are interested in enrolling your child in RA’s, volunteering your time and talents to teaching boys to become Ambassadors for Christ, or simply want to learn more about our purpose and activities, please feel free to drop by on Wednesday nights or contact one of our RA counselors. We always welcome the involvement of parents.
